Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.....-Author unknown...

This past Sunday we had to make that very difficult decision that we knew was coming but hoped to avoid. And although I'm still haunted as to if I made the right decision, I know in my mind (if not my heart) that I did. Duke you are missed.
Duke with his sister Coco
Josh and lap dog duke
Zach and pillow Duke
Wants to go running Duke
Joe cool Duke

Not Duke but found on the internet and looks just like him including the attitude and tongue.

Wow! That's got to be one of the toughest decisions to make. Hang in there, or go get ya another one. Boxers are the best!

This made me cry. I hope you and your family are all doing OK, Julie. Duke is now playing with some of my little friends from years past in the Land of the Rainbow Bridge (Duke, meet Twiggy, Billy, Paula Pepper, Ryan, and Butterfly--two whippets, two greyhounds and one Lab).

Oh Julie! I'm so sorry. The only time I've seen my husband cry was the day we had to make the choice to let go of our dog, Coda. It is such a difficult thing to do. My thoughts are with you.

I totally missed this!
I am so sorry about Duke. I had to make the same decision about Colby a few years ago. I had him for 16.5years. He was my child. I know how hard it is.
I am sorry I didn't know this before now.
