My a$$ hurts....

I've mentioned having a pain in my butt I believe. I told you that I went to the chiro last week. I thought things were feeling ok, not great but better, on a short 2 mile run on the TM I did on Thursday. On Saturday I decided to try again. No bueno as my son would say. After about 1/2 mile not only was the pain in the butt back, but it was shooting down the left side of my leg. I continued to run for 2 miles but then headed home to clean up and head back to the chiropractor. This time I finally put it all together, I can be a little slow. It is obviously the sciatic nerve. It's not as if I haven't had an issue with this before so why oh why did it take me so long to figure it out? Actually maybe I knew, it just took me a long time to take it serious and actually start to take care of it...Not only do I have a pain in the ass, I am an ass....I have noted in my training log off and on pain and tightness since about mid September and I'm sure I didn't note it right off either. So it's my own fault that I am now sitting here while the weather outside is perfect for running. Let this be a lesson to you Julie...stretch better (ok maybe I should just say stretch) and when go to the chiropractor on a regular basis! I will see her again this week and go from there. Hopefully I will be running again soon!

Meanwhile I'm not sure what to do...I guess I'll take the dog for a walk....

Oh man, I hate to stretch too. I have finally realized I have to stop ignoring it because all these experts might be on to something. Ugh, I just don't like it. Hope the ass is better soon because the weather is lovely right now!

We should make a stretching challenge. ;) I need to be way more consistent with it too. I'm starting to realize that I'm not young anymore, so that means I have to stretch...

Ouch! I hope you get it all worked out. Stretching always helps me feel better. It's kinda a pain in the butt, but probably not as bad as what you're experiencing.

I was bad about stretching this weekend myself, but yours sounds like the real PITA. I hope your chiro can help. At least it's back to being beautiful weather for dog-walking!

Ryan had some horrible sciatic problems during XC this year - on two occasions. PT-man gave him some stretches and strength training exercises to do on a DAILY BASIS (I hope he is reading this so he remembers today :)); it really helps and he was able to run well this year.

I thought about you on my run today, on the CC Path towards downtown...the last leg of our Century ride this summer. Oh Memories!! :) THere were TONS of cyclists out today.

Stretch, Julie, stretch!! That's for you AND me. I've totally been a stretching slacker the last week or so :-(
Take care of you and your butt :-)

I am sorry about your sciatic! That is no fun. I have struggled with that problem in the past and I know how you feel. Keep up faithful stretching so you can move beyond this one as well and tackle new adventures!

Oh NO! Have you thought about seeing a physical therapist?

I have been a pain in my own ass many, many times and I always say that I am going to do better with the whole stretching thing, but, dammit that takes time!

Good luck with that chiro, I hope he works the kinks out.

I totally get the noticing but not noticing thing. I love my chiro but I have to say that seeing a Physical Therapist is changing my whole life - in a good way. :) So, maybe that could help? Good luck! Take care of yourself!

Hello - Found you via Katie @ Will Race for Carbs. The post title caught my eye since I am currently recovering from a pain in the a$$ myself. It was diagnosed by an Orthopedic Doctor as Piriformis syndrome. Similar pain to Sciatica which I experienced about 4 years ago.

I have been going to PT for 5 weeks now & just started running again last week. Every visit she does some serious scraping & stretches. She also has given me lots of exercises to do. I had some serious muscle imbalances. I thought Swim, Bike, Run was cross training but only in one direction. The glutes & hips get really weak if no side to side work is done. Live & learn.

Hope you have a speedy recovery!

how did I miss a post of yours? Don't want to ruin my 100% read stats. haha

Sorry about your back. Take it easy though, now is the time to rest and heal injuries right.

Hey! I just posted Part 2 the exercises. Hope you are feeling better & it is not Piriformis. Sciatica in my experience heals faster.
